Section 1: Set Your Head Straight

Look at any elite athlete, high performance team or Beyonce – they’ll tell you that having the right mind set is absolutely critical for success. If you don’t have your head in the game, you’re not playing! Find out how the top students think, and how you should too.

Welcome

In this first module you’ll meet Lachie and Katie. They’re going to let you know what we’ll be covering today, give an overview of the importance of motivation and get you to reflect on some of your own thought processes that you mightn’t have considered before. Before watching the video, take a minute to answer the questions below.

Activity

Step 1: If you haven’t already, download your Student Elevation workbook.

Learning Objectives

Learn about what we’re covering today – and why some students have no problem getting motivated.

Activity

Step 1: Lachie and Katie have handed you the map for today’s course. Before we hit the road, take a moment to answer the following questions:

Belief

As we now know, the top performing students get top grades because they have a foundation of core beliefs – let’s look at what these core beliefs are.

Growth Mindset

Students who know the difference between a “fixed mindset” and a “growth mindset” have a huge advantage when it comes to achieving their goals in high school. Katie is going to equip you with the tools to gain the psychological edge required to succeed.

Activity

Step 1: If you haven’t already, take some time to complete the ‘Limiting beliefs’ exercise in your workbook. Fill in the first column with all the subjects you’re currently studying. Complete the rest of the table in the same way Katie just showed you.

Step 2: Answer the question below.

Goals

The top performing students stay motivated because of the goals they keep – but how do you set goals? And even more importantly, how do you go about achieving them? Your presenter has the answers…

Activity

Step 1: Now it’s your turn. Download this file to start forming your own goals – once you’ve finished, upload the file and move onto your next module.

Section 2: The Essentials

When we see high performance it often looks glitzy and special, but often it’s the simple things done repeatedly that make the difference. This section is about the basics. These are your vegetables. Eat them.

Welcome

Katie and James will give you a rundown of who Elevate are, what we’re going to cover today and will answer the question, ‘Why do some students get the top grades?’

Activity

Step 1: If you haven’t already, download your Study Sensei workbook.

The Path of the Sensei

Join your presenter as they take you through the learning objectives of the day – and how you can start earning the top marks too.

Activity

Step 1: How good is your learning process right now? Go through the questions below – there might be some questions in here you’ve not asked yourself before…

Use Your Syllabus

Have you ever walked into an exam knowing every single thing that could come up? Sounds impossible, right? Katie is going to teach you how to predict the future and start way ahead of everyone else.

Activity | Only Year 11 & 12

Step 1: Go to your assessment authority/exam board website. It might be VCAA, NESA, Edexcel or QCAA. Assessment authorities and exam boards are different depending on where you go to school. If you don’t know yours, check with a friend or teacher.

Step 2: Pick one subject and find the syllabus/study design/course outline for the subject.

Step 3: Find the part with the bullet points. The heading might be ‘Outcomes’, ‘Students Learn’, ‘Students Investigate’ or ‘Assessment Objectives’.

Step 4: Upload a screenshot of the bullet points you could be assessed on. We’ll let you know if you’ve found the right section and are on the right track.

Remember: Every subject you’re studying will have a syllabus, and every syllabus will have this section. By making sure you cover every point in your syllabus, you go into an exam knowing with 100% certainty everything that could be asked. It’s like cheating, but you’re supposed to do it!

Take Notes During Term

Despite what the majority of students think, making notes won’t get you marks. James will show you how you can get your notes out of the way early so you can spend your time on the stuff that matters.

Activity

Now that we know why we should take notes during term, let us show you how. Download the file below to begin to create your own Note Taking Planner.

Step 1: Download the Note Taking Planner here.
Quick tip! Right click the link to open the planner in a new tab.

Step 2: Fill it out for 1 subject, outlining the syllabus point and deadline.
